HO-SAI — Biography

Ho-Sai is a French pop-rock project founded in the mid-1980s by musician, composer, and producer Jean-Pierre Ducos (Chris Comet) and vocalist- lyricist Janice Mabry. Blending polished European pop melodies, rock energy, and sophisticated studio production, the group built a devoted following throughout Europe, Canada, and South America.

Before forming Ho-Sai, Ducos and Mabry performed together in the group Rendez-Vous on Tréma Records under renowned producer Jacques Revaux, co-writer of “Comme d’habitude,” later adapted as “My Way.” During this period, Ducos was an active Paris session musician and synthesizer keyboardist for Michel Sardou, while Mabry worked as a backing vocalist on Sardou’s live and studio projects. Their successful creative partnership ultimately led to the formation of Ho-Sai.

Following a signing with AZ Records, Ho-Sai gained early recognition with the single “Pouring Rain.” The band's international profile expanded significantly following a deal with Epic Records / CBS International for the 1986 album Tightropes. The album featured “Pouring Rain” and “The Last One,” both receiving substantial AM/FM radio airplay and exposure on music video channels.

Recorded in Paris at Harryson Studios and the Palais des Congrès, Tightropes showcased an outstanding roster of musicians, including Manu Katché, Kamil Rustam, Michel Gaucher, Georges Bodossian, Pierre Chérèze, and Roger Loubet. Chris Comet handled keyboards, synthesizers, arrangements, composition, and production, while Janice Mabry provided lead vocals and lyrics. The album achieved international distribution through CBS across multiple territories.

In the late 1980s, Ducos and Mabry relocated to the United States, first to San Francisco and later Los Angeles. After Mabry departed in 1989 to pursue a solo career, Ho-Sai continued with vocalist Jacqueline Clemons, recording additional material at Amigo Studios, Paul Brown sound engineer and with world-class session musicians including Vinny Colaiuta, Michael Landau, Freddie Washington, and Sam Riney. Although these recordings remained unreleased, Ducos went on to establish himself as a respected producer, composer, and recording professional within the Los Angeles music community.

In 2020, renewed fan interest throughout Europe and the Americas prompted Chris Comet to revisit the Ho-Sai catalog from his Texas-based Soaring Eagle Studio. What began as a remastering project soon evolved into a full-scale revival, featuring a remastered edition of Tightropes alongside an entirely new body of work released under the banner Ho-Sai "New Energy".   The new lineup includes lead vocalist Alex Zender, female vocalist Elektra Sparks, guitarist Sebastian Marshall, and guest guitarist Glenn DeLaune.

As founder, songwriter, and producer, Comet oversess every aspect of the project, including composition, arrangements, production, recording, mastering, and performance of keyboards, bass, and drum programming. New songs such as “Mark My Words,” “It’s Love I Found It,” “T’m Still Your Friend,” and the power ballad “You Are The Only One” preserve Ho-Sai’s melodic identity while introducing a fresh, contemporary rock sound. The project scheduled for release on July 4, 2026, through Chris Comet Music. Ho-Sai: New Energy celebrates the 40th anniversary of Ho-Sai.

The new release is scheduled for July 4, 2026, on the Chris Comet Music Productions label, commemorating the 40th anniversary of Ho-Sai. Combining remastered classics from Tightropes with an exciting collection of new recordings, the release marks a vibrant new chapter in the band's history. Rooted in international collaboration, exceptional musicianship, and enduring melodic songwriting, Ho-Sai bridges four decades of musical evolution while introducing the project to a new generation of listeners.

Beyond Ho-Sai, Chris Comet launched several successful recording projects, including Back In Time by NOVA THE BAND, a modern tribute to classic 1980s rock created with guitarist and vocalist Glenn DeLaune, Featuring original compositions by Comet and DeLaune, the album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Soaring Eagle Studio, Comet served as producer, arranger, keyboardist, and co-writer, while DeLaune handled lead vocals and guitars.
